Hello everybody
My name's Jim, I'm a nontraditional (read:old) student at K-State and was hoping to get into airsoft. I played a bit of paintball back in my high school days, but I've always been more interested in the "realism" of Airsoft.
Since you guys seem to be the only airsofters around (at least that I can find by a simple internet search), I was wondering what I would need to do to get with you guys, play some games, and learn the ropes?
As for guns, I have a "sniper" rifle on the way, but I'm looking around for a good AEG assault rifle....any recommendations? Also, I read in one of the other threads that for clothing and other gear on the cheap, I should hit the Junction City army surplus stores....What sort of stuff would you guys recommend starting with? I don't have an unlimited budget, but I do have some cash to play around with.
I read in yet another thread that you guys tend to play sundays, especially with it warming up. How long do you guys play/what's a typical playing day like? We talkin 6am-10pm or somethin more like 10am-2pm? And what would be the best way to find out when you games are (assuming they aren't every sunday at some preset time)?
Thanks a ton for any help you guys can provide and feel free to hit me up at Jrashcra@ksu.edu

As for gear I would recommend getting your basic camo and coming to a game to see what the different players have, to see what you like. There are unlimited options out there.
Guns its also personal preference. I like and run M4's and the mags are everywhere for them. brand wise do some research, Airsoftgi.com has a review section with all of their products.
Playtime is usally 1230 and llasts from 2-5 hours depending on the day. We post game info in the events section.
Hope this helps and I hope to see you on the field, Logan Matthias KSUAT President

Thanks for the info Logan, I'm planning on running down to Junction City sometime this week to pick up some basic camo (alas my old high school stuff doesn't fit anymore) and am looking at a couple of different M4 rifles on a variety of sites
I'll keep an eye out for events and hopefully be able to meet you guys soon

Derby,
I personally like the look of Woodland better and usually wear something in a 42"-30" pant and a large or xl shirt. If you've got something like that, I'd gladly take it off your hands, though I insist on payin ya something for them.

It's almost like my JG M4 S-System, and I love it. JG has come a long way in the past 2 years or so with the quailty of their guns. We would just need to crono the gun when you get it so you know your engagemnet range with it. This gun might be on my wish list...LOL.

Wear whatever eye-pro that you feel comfortable wearing for several hours, that are durable, and won't fog up. For vests, I like the Molle vests because you can adjust the pouches to whatever you like, but thats just my opinion. If you don't want to risk cutting up your knees, I would get some knees pads. speed loader would be good as well.

MOLLE vests are great, I have one and love it. But they are expensive to setup, and I'm still trying to get everything for mine. For something cheap for an M4 platform you could go with a Load Bearing Vest. I think they are Vietnam Era, but they hold 6 M4 mags and have two grenade pouches. I have a MOLLE hydration carrier on mine and also a 2" web belt with a dump pouch and another pouch on it. I like this vest because it's lightweight, and with with some modifications, holds just about everything I need. Just my two cents.
