Ok I did a little math (super complex equations!) to see how much money its going to take us round trip.
These numbers account for getting to and from ft. knox from Manhattan (round trip according to google). Does not include if we go get food or something after the first night or something like that.
The Data
Miles per Gallon = 21.4 (average of the last 4 times I got gas, 95% highway miles. I imagine Rome's car is close to mine.)
Round Trip = 1318 miles X 2 = 2636 (x2 because we have 2 cars.)
Current Price per gallon = $2.50
The Proposal
I don't think it is to out of line to ask that drivers not pay for gas. 1300 miles on the car + wear on the tires, etc is quite a bit and will exceed this I am pretty sure. But I know it will be kinda hard for everyone else to swallow the cost without us so I propose that Rome and I each get to pay half a share (please give your thoughts about this). That leaves us with 5 (4 people + me and rome each as a half) people paying. Out of those people we should probably just lump the gas purchases together. It will probably just be confusing if we try to figure out how long each of us was in each car and try to work it out that way. So basically we all add up the cost of fuel and it gets divided by the number of people who are paying.
Rome and I will both gas up our cars in Manhattan right before we leave. Then when we get back to manhattan we will gas the cars up again. That way the cars left the caravan in the exact fuel situation that they came.
The Math
The following takes into account both cars
Gallons Needed = 123.17
Total Cost = 307.94
The Damage
Per full paying person = $61.58
For Rome and I each paying half a share = $30.79
Paying Up
Two ways that I see it.
1. Drivers can put gas on credit card (or whatever) and at the end of the trip it is figured up how much everyone owes and everyone (EVERYONE) writes a check or gives cash right then and there.
2. Everyone brings ~$60 with them for the gas fund. When it is all over we will take whatever is left in the gas fund and split it back up between everyone.
Please leave your thoughts on this
Side Notes
1. I pretty much drive the speed limit. And I will expect anyone driving my car to do the same.
2. All weapons need to be properly bagged or cased. Nothing just laying in the back.
3. I am bringing my laptop with wireless Internet so we can surf on the trip if we want (post on the forum and make everyone else wish they were going to Irene
4. I will probably be bringing a GPS unit.
