Hey, just wondering when you guys kick off you airsoft year and how often you play. I'm not sure when I'll be able to come out for the first time, 'cause the first couple weeks at MCC are gonna be pretty hectic I think.

We usually try to play every Sunday, and once the school year starts we get in earnest. Of course some people can't make it out every time, because of tests, etc. but we try to have a game every week. So later on this month our whole team should be back, and we should be back on schedule.

Later in the school year, after things settle down, there is usually 2 or 3 games a month. I would recommend getting a semi-automatic weapon at least, as the fields we play the most in are mainly covered with lots of trees and brush.

Alright, thanks! So you are saying that in the playing fields there aren't a lot of open space? I have grown to like snipers recently. Do many people that play use snipers? I take it the environment is that of a field, and not so much a forest?
Sorry about all the questions, and thanks for your help!!!

Marksman platforms are good for DMR roles in a squad situation. Semi-Auto capabilities being preferred. I've been in the sport a LOOOOOONG time and I've seen quite a few people get frustrated with bolt-actions, but I've seen a number of people that enjoy them too. Most of the engagements that happen are not very conducive to bolt actions, but there are other schools of thought. What did you get?! Can I suggest getting a small PDW type weapon in the event that your gun is hot but your opponents are close? perhaps a UMP or M4 shorty?

I got an AGM type 96 (L96) from airsoft megastore. came with scope and bipod. about 450 fps with .20s. good reviews on it too. I'm not sure about the PDW type weapon. I have a few pistols, and a shotgun with about 320 fps with .20s Also an automatic that is truly pathetic

Too bad they didn't run, to my knowledge, the deal they were ACTUALLY gonna run on that gun. It wouldn't even have been a matter of "do I buy it?" so much as "can I get one before they sell out?" Also too bad they ran the blackwater m4 so badly.

With your sniper being rated at 450 fps, you will at the very least need a side arm just so you aren't completely without options under your engagement range. Greg's idea of a UMP, MP5, P90, M4-CQBR, etc is a very good idea however a good gas, electric, or (worst case) springer pistol is quite adequate for a side arm. Just be aware that with something like a high FPS sniper, you will have a long engagement range. Without a side arm/PDW, you would have to call a "parlay" and move back to where you can safely re-engage. Truly pathetic does work for a PDW believe it or not. You just need it to shoot as far as the engagement range of your sniper!

Haha, my automatics battery life is about 30 seconds. I may invest in a better one, or just stick with my pistols. Thank you all for your feed back! it was very interesting and useful. I'm really excited to get to playing!

What is your AEG? If it takes a "tamiya" type plug similar to an R/C car, you can always get a new battery. They only last so long before they finally won't hold a charge anymore. I would borrow a known good battery from someone next time you go out and see if that doesn't make a difference. If so, you'd just need to replace your battery. If you have any questions on guns, feel free to ask. I've been building airsoft guns for a long time, even as far as custom machining gearbox parts. I don't currently live in the area so its hard for me to work on stuff for KSUAT people but I can still share what I know and try to help out as much in that way as is possible.

Caleb has a point with the gas or electric pistol. Ive seen these used to great effect! Actually, recalling it was Caleb himself that was ridiculous with a pistol if I remember right. I use 1 GBB KJWM9 pistol, I love it... but i'm not into the marksman role. Therefore, when I'm running DMR, I like my options open and if the situation calls for something tasty, I like to rely on an AEG for the mag size, range, and accuracy. But I agree, a pistol could do fantastic as well.

my "AEG" is a 200 fps walmart automatic. gravity fed through the scope and the battery was the "magazine" I think i may be better off just getting a new close range gun. I have always thought that a semi-auto pistol would be fun compared to my spring pistols, but after my sniper purchase, i have to take it easy on the spending lol.
